Samotlorneftegaz (an enterprise of Rosneft’s oil production complex) has held the Yugra Indigenous Peoples’ Ethnic Culture Festival in Nizhnevartovsk District of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area. The large-scale event was attended by more than 500 representatives of various nations living and working in the Khanty-Mansiysk District.
Preservation of the culture and way of life of the indigenous peoples of the North is one of the key areas of Rosneft’s social policy. Each year, the Company undertakes major projects to help indigenous people in the regions of operations.
During the folklore festival there were many interactive activities aimed at intercultural communication with the Khanty and Mansi peoples. The festival is timed to coincide with the beginning of the «little winter», according to the natural calendar of the Ob Ugrians, who have a centuries-old tradition of living in harmony with the environment. Representatives of the indigenous people of Ugra shared their philosophy of living in harmony with the environment and maintaining the balance of nature through rituals.
Folk artisans held various workshops on national arts and crafts. Visitors to the festival learned how to make amulets from natural materials, traditional Khanty Akan dolls and ornamental jewellery.
A special platform was dedicated to indigenous ethno-sports events, which have their origins in the traditional way of life of reindeer herders and are an integral part of the original culture of the Khanty and Mansi peoples.
